Sunday, March 15th
Families - tomorrow we are prepared to give your students (and you) resources to help keep your students academically engaged during our mandated closure. Resources that we could quickly assemble will be sent home in print tomorrow. Teachers will be engaged on their ClassDojo classroom pages so keep checking back for resources. Our COVID-19 page on our district website will continuously be updated with academic resources for you and your students over the coming weeks. Please check back frequently.
Your child will be bringing home all personal items tomorrow so classrooms can be cleaned thoroughly.
If your child has medication at school that needs to be picked up, please do so ASAP.
Be well.
Lisa

UG Families - now that we have confirmation of COVID-19 in Yakima County, we are implementing the following in order to keep our students, staff and community as safe from infection as possible:
• All field trips outside of Yakima County are canceled. Other field trips decisions will be made on a case by case basis.
• Spring conferences will not be held face-to-face. Teachers will be contacting parents at the telephone number provided on the online sign-ups. If families would like to be contacted at another phone number please notify the teacher via ClassDojo or by telephone.
• We are canceling all family nights, concerts, etc. for the foreseeable future.
• At this time, no outside volunteers or visitors will be allowed at school. Parents are allowed to continue to drop off and pick up, check in and check out students. No one should enter the building if they are ill. Ill family members can call the main office for students to be picked up for appointments, etc and students will be brought to the family member outside.
• K-2 Student of the Month is canceled for the foreseeable future. When we are able, we hope to combine months missed so students can be recognized. Board Student of the Month will take place this month, but this may change moving forward.
• Spring sports practices and after school programs will continue until further notice.
These decisions were not made lightly. The district has been in constant contact with public health officials who support these decisions. We know this is a trying time and you and your families are concerned but know the district is doing everything to mitigate infection within our school walls and buses. Please contact me if you have any questions and visit our district website for additional information at www.uniongapschool.org
Stay healthy!

Effective Thursday, March 12th the school will be moving to one entrée for lunch so that kitchen staff can serve fruits and vegetables (removing self serve station/salad bar) until further notice. This is necessary to offset potential contamination of that service area. We are sorry for any inconvenience but we are thinking long term to keep COVID-ID out of our community.

Today we begin celebrating Classified Employee Appreciation Week. These dedicated and hardworking team members are recognized for their commitment to providing high quality education and positive experiences for our children, every day. Thank you!

Starting this month, you’ll receive mail from the U.S. Census Bureau asking you to take the census online or by phone. The process is quick and easy, and it helps ensure that Washington is fully counted. Check out http://2020census.gov to learn more.

Steps you can take to prevent the spread of the flu and the common cold will also help prevent coronavirus:
Wash hands often with soap and water
Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with hands
Avoid all contact with people who are sick
Students should stay home if sick, until they are well
Cover mouth/nose with tissue or sleeve with coughing or sneezing.

Bus 1 & 6 will be up to 10-12 minutes late today. Heads up!

Sign up online for Parent/Teacher Conferences now on the district website at www.uniongapschool.org!

We are excited to announce that we’ve
partnered with the @uscensusbureau to
support the #2020Census! As a partner, we’ll
be working to ensure that our community is
